I recently replaced my motherboard, and purchased a tested bundle which included a Foxcomm WinFast NF4UK8AA, an AMD 64 3000 and 1Gb RAM. You might wonder why the bundle, but it suited my needs as I have trouble making my hands work these days.
To this I added a BFG GeForce 6600 GT OC PCI-E card.
When I first powered up, the machine would start running for about 20 seconds and then shut down.
After checking all the obvious causes, I decided the PSU was probably the cause and replaced it with a new 450w. The machine took several tries to boot before I got any picture on my screen, but once started correctly, all seemed fine.
Now, some six weeks later, the problem seems to happen at boot time, every other day. The machine begins to boot, all the checks and lights flashing on the front panel, but nothing on the screen.
The only thing to do is to Reset, which sometimes works first time, and other days takes up to 6 resets before I get the info through to the screen.
I'm not sure if BFG support works for customers in The States, with a Free phone line, but here in the UK, relying on Email is a nightmare. I have tried to contact them for help on several occasions, but the messages just get bounced back to me after a couple of days.
At the moment I'm stuck wondering if it's a graphic card or motherboard problem, and thought this would be a great place to try.
Any advice would be very welcome,
Chris
