My friend is putting together a computer for himself and he has asked me to help him out, because I know a little more about computers then the average joe. The motherboard he has picked out has a NVIDIA NF4 chipset, but he wants to run an ATI graphix card. Will this be ok? Ive honeslty never run into this before.

Yep, Nvidia chipsets do NOT prohibit the use of an ATI card.

But if he picked out a SLI motherboard and wants to run two video cards in SLI then he'll have to go with a nVidia based video card (certified for SLI duty).

He should run a Crossfire chipset motherboard that way he can run dual ATi cards if he wishes to later on.
Or he should just go with a Nvidia GPU.
