I have an ASUS P4C800-E motherboard and one of my ram stcks has gone bad. I want to buy anotho take my memory back up to 1024. I tried reading that very detailed thread on ram and ddr and stuff but im afraid its a bit over my head. There are two blue and brown slots, whats the difference? and whats the best kind of ram to buy at 512?

the two colors of sockets are for the dual channel hyper threading ram.
you want to place one stick on each of the same color socket to have the dual channel.
personaly for that board I would use the kingston hyper=x type of ram.
but if your wanting to over clock then the ocz type of ram does a better job
Most ram has a lifetime warranty - just get your bad stick replaced.
Ram in dual channel must be installed in matched pairs, and if you bought your ram as a dual channel kit, both sticks have to be returned for replacement.
By the way - why did you open a new thread? It doesn't appear that you have proven bad ram one way or the other yet. See my comment in your other thread.

because i removed one stick of ram and so far all the problems have stopped. Unless it is a coincidence, but i plan to take both sticks of ram to a computer shop to have them tested.
Why don't you just test them yourself with memtest86+?
