I purchased a bare bones system from new egg last week as well as a hard drive, ram, processor.

I put it all together today, plugged it in and pushed the power button... nothing happened. I checked the connections to the power button that were previously already plugged in for me. All of those connections seem to be secure. Once the power cord is in there is a small green light on the mother board that lights up. In the back of the computer instead of a power supply on/off switch there is a light. Once pluged in the light turns green. After a few minutes or after I push the power button this light turns off. The computer has yet to start.

Is this a power supply problem?

-Thanks

What brand is the motherboard and the PSU? Is the CPU a retail one with a HSU? Make sure that the HSU is fully latched in place, make sure all the PSU connectors to the mobo are connected and all the way latched.

Actually I found out what the problem was... I had the voltage set wrong.

But I found another question. Does it mater what I have connected to the primary IDE port. When I was building it I connected the DVD ROM on its own cable to the primary port and the hard drive (on its own cord) to the secondary port. The OS I installed works fine.

The hard drive should be on the primary.
