View Full Version : generic wireless mouse-oh the horror
I recently bought a wireless mouse-generic brand. I looked all over it and their is no tell tale sign of who built it other than it was built in Taiwan.
It was working great until.......the most traumatic event in my PC lifetime:rolleyes:
I built a computer
the new computer has an intel celeron D 2.53 GHz plus an asrock motherboard P4VM800, I installed a linux distribution. I did this mainly to see if I could do it and with the help of this board, it worked!!!
the old computer has a matsonic Motherboard MS8188E AMD XP 1400 1.03 GHz, and it has windows XP. I have all my files on this computer
so I got the brilliant idea that if I swapped hard drives I would benefit from the faster intel processor. For some reason, windows XP did not like this and it would not load. So I just switched them back.
However, after the switch-back, my wireless mouse would not work. Even after uninstalling it and reinstalling it it still does not work. I have done this twice.
This travesty has forced me to (gulp) use a mouse with a wire....oh the horror!
can anyone help or provide some guidance? any help would be greatly appreciated

Thats really strange. I always try the easyest things first, pull the battery out and fire it back in, check to make sure my USB port my reciever is on is working, and do what you said, remove and reinstall your mouse software.
As for your XP not working on your newer system it's probably because you ususally need the same chipset on your board for the swap to work without a fresh install.
I'm sure the mix of an AMD cpu vs your newer intel would throw a fair amount of problems in also. Check your CMOS to make sure USB is enabled on your new board, go to your supplier of your mouse for a support page, maybe an updated driver or FAQ.
Good Luck! Anyone one else?

Is your mouse receiver in the USB port? If so try different USB ports. That might help. Go into your mouse configuration in control panel and make shure it is set right with it's manual. Go into system and device manager and check for any problems '!'. And last but not least check your mouse batteries.

I use a wireless mouse with my laptop & I found that if I have my external hard drive sitting within a few inches of the USB receiver, if interferes with the signal.
Do a quick check to see if there is anything that can cause interferance near your receiver; hard drive or anything else.
I know it's A bit far fetched, but an easy thing to check
here the latest on my wireless mouse problem
I was not able to fix it after following some of the suggestions (checked the battery, re-installed--the wireless mouse did come accompanied with a CD , checked the connections)
here are some more updates
The receiver does have a USB connector however, I have a USB-PS/2 adapter, so the connection actually takes place on the PS/2 mouse port.
I was able to discover that Windows is not detecting the mouse, it did before so I am not sure why it is not doing so now. The way I found out that it was not detecting the mouse was because I checked the device manager and the mouse did not show up.
I double checked by plugging in the traditional mouse (the one with the wire) and windows was able to detect it but not the wireless mouse.
I am assuming that it is missing a driver, I had windows check for a driver but it was not able to find it.
any other suggestions?
PS
the CD installed a "mouse program" in the program file folder where you can modify the wheel scroller and the other buttons. That folder contains DLL files and other things that I don't understand.
What does a driver file look like? will it be in this "mouse folder"? How do I find the driver?
If it doesn't detect it as a generic mouse, the mouse or the receiver is bad. Windows has default generic mouse drivers that will detect any mouse made.
I solved the puzzle. I figured since windows was not detecting the mouse, then maybe the "add new hardware" function of windows which forced it to detect the mouse and the receiver. It is now working
thanks guys believe it or not, your suggestions got my mind working on a variety of different options which led to the solution
THANKS TO ALL!!
