lost windows 98se desktop

booted my IBM P2=233 desktop and no windows desktop--i get the musical introd. and then a "invalid page fault' message for IEXPLORE.exe.

same scenario when attempt in safe mode(no music id of course!)

can get to command prompt ok.

does this mean a win98 reload is needed ? -(

sometimes, on booting, i get a strtup message that thr is a system board conflict?

RAM is OK...i pulled the modem-made no difference.

When IEXPLORE goes for lunch, it usually takes the whole office with it, and nobody's left to clean up. (I have no idea why I just typed that) X-) :rolleyes:
Anyhow, the easiest fix is a reinstall.

what a bummer--this happened on my campground computer--had to drive back home to fetch the win98 install discs etc.

will keep a second copy at the remote site!!

Will try to (just) reinstall over old win98 without a reformatting and see what happens. I wonder WHY the win98 went sour? (virus, power line spike etc)??!!

Was working fine last weekend- had powered down, unplugged power but not the modem line during the week--maybe a lightening issues??
