I recently "upgraded" my computer, while running windows 98 I noticed that if the computer is in "sleep" mode for too long, I have to restart the computer. My keyboard has a sleep button, but if it sits for too long, then pressing the sleep button does no good and the only solution I have found is to restart the computer whenever that happens. Any ideas?

The other problem is that I have no clue where to find the system tools(defragmentor, other goodies)on my pc, and they are not in the "start" menu. How do I edit the "start"(what is the proper name for the stat menu?) menu?

Thanks, Logan

Hello,

Do you want your computer to go into sleep mode? If not, go to Control Panel and to Power Management and set Power scheme to always on and everything else to never and it should help.

As for the tools, the should be under Accessories/System Tools. If they are not there, go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, then the Windows Setup tab, go down and click system tools, then details and check which you want to install. Click ok, and it should prompt your for your win98 cdrom to install them. HTH

A quick way to get to the tools, if they are there, is to right click on the hard drive, select properties from the menu and go to the tools tab. For editing the start menu, one way is to right click on the Start button and select Open. As for waking up the computer, you mention that Sleep is pressed [is that a typo?]. Try the spacebar or Wake Up button.

mention sleep is pressed?

I mentioned that if I press the sleep button again, the computer doesn't wake up.

If I simply set a screen saver will my computer still go into sleep mode?
