My MS Intellimouse Explorer worked fine for a few days (USB mode) then it got to where about 90% of the time, it would not detect or cause Win98FE to not even load. I then noticed if I wait until Win98 loaded, then plugged it in, all would work fine. I then hooked up some front port USB (which I guess just share the bandwidth with the two rear ones, because there is no way to turn the front ones on and off in the BIOS and in Device Manager there are only two Controllers and two Root Hubs listed) so it would be easier to connect (I am waiting on a USB to PS/2 connector that is in the mail). All worked fine for 5 or 6 days, and then yesterday I had some problems with plugging in the mouse. I would plug it in, then about 1 minute later (usually while in Outlook Express) it would just freeze the computer. I tried this several times, then plugged the mouse into the rear ports and it worked. Then later I plugged my Joystick (Sidewinder) in to the front ports and in the Sidewinder tool the calibration showed to be perfect, but in a game it was way overly sensative and the calibration was off. I plugged it in to the rear and had the same problem. I removed the mouse and rebooted several times with the same results. Then I removed the USB adapter from the joystick and plugged it in to the soundcard and it worked. I then removed it from the gameport and plugged it to the USB and all was ok again. It seems that ever since I have gotten this Intellimouse, my USB performance has gotten worse every few days...even if it is not plugged in. Could my mouse problem be corrupting some drivers or something? I have an FIC AD11 board that has the VIA 686 Southbridge. I know the VIA controllers are not good, but I had not problems with the joystick before and now I do. Thanks
