I have a Gigabyte M'board GA-8SIMLH-P.
the on board IDE specs state:

2 IDE bus master (UDMA33/ATA66/ATA100/ATA133) IDE ports for up to 4 ATAPI devices.
Supports PIO mode3,4 (UDMA 33/ATA66/ATA100/ATA133) IDE & ATAPI CD-ROM

Now after I have read all the threads, but I am still a bit confused. Tyhe threads state that UDMA and ATA are the same. So the DVD burner that I want to buy states that it requires UDMA 66.
Mine states UDMA 33.... but also states ATA 66.
So.... is my board OK for that DVD burner or not. Is the only difference that makes a UDMA 33 to a UDMA 66 the 80 pin cable?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, everything is compatible. You need an 80 wire cable for 66 and higher. UDMA and ATA are essentially the same thing.
