I have been using an External DVD Player for around a year just fine but I just noticed today that when I put a blank DVD in, the drive doesn't recognize it. It doesn't even play some videos I burned on a friends DVD player.

I can't even open the drive in My Computer, it just says G: Is not accessible. Incorrect Function.

The moment I pop in Quake 4, Battlefield 2 DVDs, the drive starts thinking and boom the popup screen comes out and it reads it fine. It also seems to read some DVDs I burnt which have video files on it.

I have no idea why it doesn't recognize blank and certain DVDs though. I have tried to change USB ports, un/reinstall drivers, uninstall the drive. I just don't seem to see it doesn't work anymore. If anyone could help me with this problem I'd appreciate it very much.

DVD Drive is Sony DVD RW DRX-710UL

It may be the media. Maybe the Sony doesn't like the media you are using. There is a physical difference between OEM (publisher/studio) disks and homemade. OEM are stamped and homemades are burned. It seems that DVD players are better able to sense that.

What's Sony's interest in you not playing BURNED disks? Think Sony-Columbia! I'm not getting sarcastic, I know someone with a Sony home DVD burner (for a TV and xfering VHS to DVD). The thing won't play it's own burned DVDs! Go figure!
