That is a very interesting article. It's always fun to know how things operate.
In the second to last page the UPS/FedEx shipping controversy is explained:
With your box packed, labeled and taped up it's off to shipping and it's in Newegg's shipping that most of the recent controversy has been about. Newegg's default shipping is through UPS, although you can pay extra for FedEx. Newegg used to be a FedEx shop by default, however recently FedEx significantly raised their rates, which Newegg passes directly onto their customers. Newegg claims that the rate hike was an attempt by FedEx to discourage customers from shipping via 3-day air, which loses money for FedEx, and instead choose FedEx ground which is profitable.
However FedEx Ground isn't as good as UPS ground, so the end result is frustrated FedEx 3-day air customers that have to pay more, or customers forced out of pricing to go with UPS, which hasn't always had the best track record. In response to complaints about UPS VP Tong says, "We're serious about providing our customers with the best service. We've taken the criticisms about UPS constructively and have greatly improved the situation. However we're always striving for perfection and always welcome further feedback."
It looks like FedEx is the one really responsible for the switch.

I had no problems getting the pictures in Maxthon. The enlargements wouldn't come up when I tried to open them in a new window though.

I have no problems loading up the enlarged pics in new windows. Did you try shift-clicking them instead of dragging them?

Still no joy on the pics with FF or IE :( -- so I took this opertunity to (finally) install Opera 8.5. No difference in viewing!?! Using Properties, Opera states that the first pic is 1x1 pixels in size, but FF reports the size as 500x333.
Any ideas?

A few questions:
1) Do you have active content filtering enabled either through a firewall or through your browser?
2) Do you have any sort of antispyware running on your system?
3) Does clearing your cache help?
4) Does this happen on other sites (or other pages on anandtech)?
5) What happens when you refresh the page as it is loading?

Hi pillainp,
1) Not that I can find, other than Zone Alarm Pro and NAV 05. I disabled it in NAV: no change. I even tried giving the site full permissions in ZAP, and even allowed http://images.anandtech.com full privileges.
2) ZAP, which I disabled it's spyware function for a test: still no pics. And disabled AdBlock in Firefox with no change.
3) No, cache clearing doesn't help, and Opera was a fresh, first time install.
4) No, not that I'm aware of.
5) No change.

I viewed it in Firefox, the pictures loaded, though very slowly, I figured the site was just swamped.
That plant looks and operates near exactly the distribution center I work for, I bet I could get a job there ;)
