Hey guys,

I got my W2 in last month and I'm going to do my taxes this weekend. I understand I need to fill out the 1040EZ form and send it in with my W2. Unfortunatley, this is all I learned from my semester-long economics class last year.

Do I do this for both state and federal?

Can the form be printed out online?

Who do I send it to?

If you can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks all-

Have you thought about using any of the online services such as H&R's Taxcut, or Taxact.com? I used H&R's online option this year and it was relatively simple to use and understand. Especially if all you are filing is the W-2. And now the IRS has made E-File free so you get your refund faster thru direct deposit. And, when you are done, you can print out the tax return should you choose to do so or just save an e-copy. You can also file the state return at the same time you are doing the Federal return. Keep in mind that usually there is an extra fee for filing the state return.

Oh...and I didn't double my refund, but I did win a copy of Legal Pro software...:p

You can download the necessary forms for Federal/State/Local income tax. Just use Google to find your municipality's site. You no longer need to send the W2 with the Fed forms. In Michigan, you don't send them with the state forms either. The instruction booklets can be viewed in PDF or downloaded. The addresses for sending in your forms are on the respective form or in the instruction booklets. Have fun.

Thanks Panama and el novato.

Do I use the 1040 EZ for both federal and state tax returns?

1040EZ is a federal tax form...there are different specific forms for Michigan...

Go to http://www.taxact.com/index.asp you can either download their free taxact software or you can do it right on the web. They also offer FREE e-filing of your federal taxes.

There should be an instruction form with the 1040EZ form, thats how i always get mine down. It makes everything pretty simple and gives you step by step instructions. I can usually fill it out with that fairly easily and then i have my dad look over because he knows what he is doing and i just kinda guess.
