19" LCD monitor inexpensive...

Hi what U think of a good nice proced 17" or 19" LCD monitor, have to buy for the children. I am in canada, so the refrences there in the US like newegg etc., will not really help me. they will B using it for internet and homework, play some games as well on the internet.

I am looking for specs of what I should be looking for in a LCD - or some suggestions of some brand names/ models.

Also, should i be concerned about the 'durability' of a LCD vs CRT, seems like the former a more 'delicate' than the latter.

I know you said that refrences like newegg won't really help you but just for model and spec information I highly recommend THIS (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824179014) one. You didn't say what your budget is so I just suggested what I think is the best monitor for the price/spec ratio. I think you might be able to find it at Chiefvalue for about 10 bucks less plus free shipping...at least that was true last week.

By the way...this LCD uses Samsung screen which is very good.

Another option would be to research the monitors at Newegg and then check what is available at your local bigbox electronics store. They usually have a couple of good monitors on sale, you avoid the shipping charges, you can return it to them if you have problems and you can have them fire it up and check for dead pixels before you get it.

ages.... almost 7, 10 and 12

For most of what they want to do, anything will work. But the "play some games" could entail wanting a faster monitor, which means more expensive.

Quite a few people don't understand that "play some games" could mean needing an extreme computer.

u are rite, about the 'extreme' computer req'd for some games. however these guys are limited to (as I had mentioned in my orig post),

I have a Samsung 930BF 19" TFT with a 4 ms response time it is a great gaming monitor and not that expensive. No ghosting whatsover and great for Windows too. There is also a cheaper Samsung 19" TFT that gets great reviews with an 8ms response time, the SM913V. This lacks a DVI input connector though, but it is quite a bit cheaper!

Actually is there much diff between the AVI and reg vid cable? Also, how does one clean a LSD monitor, I have had this NUTECH for about a year now and never have cleaned it. (the screen)

Also, what sya u guys about the lower end VIEWSONIC 902b i.e. (338$cdn) or ACER i.e. 1916W (319$cdn)?

Low end Acers and Viewsonics are decent monitors. If the video card doesn't have a DVI connector, then don't worry about DVI.
