Cleaning Keyboard.

Hey all,

Just wanted to know how you guys clean up your keyboards?

Ive been trying to get a can of compressed air but most stores dont sell it over here where i live and when i do find someone that sells it its very expensive.

What other alternative can i do other than compressed air?

You can vacuum, or if it's real, real dirty, you can pop the keys off and use something like Windex. Don't hose down the keybrd, but spray it on you rag first, then wipe.

If it's really dirty, and you have a spare keyboard to use for a few days, you can place it in a dishwasher on the top rack. Don't use and detergent and make sure it's not set to dry. Afterwards, shake out the excess water and then let it stand and dry for at least 3 days. BE SURE it's TOTALLY dry before using it again. I know it sounds odd, but I have used this method many times over the past several years and never had a single problem.

Its not realy, realy, dirty it just gains a lot of dust between the keys.
So many of you said about something called Windex.
From what i can find out is this some sort of window cleaner right?
I live in the uk and so i dont think i can get that Windex stuff although there is many window cleaning products ive seen similar to Windex.

As i dont wonna have to take all my keyboard appart,I would probably put the keys in the wrong place:D

I take my Saitek completely apart, not the keys, the board itself. It's pretty easy.

I live in the uk and so i dont think i can get that Windex stuff although there is many window cleaning products ive seen similar to Windex....Yes, "Windex" is a window cleaner, but I was using it in the generic sense to just mean "cleaner." Kinda like "Zerox" is used to mean "make a copy" of something.

Just be careful with "citrus" and 'orange" cleaners as most are damaging to plastics. Simple "blue" or pink, etc, window type cleaners work pretty well.

If its really bad i seperate the front and back, then rinse the front off in the sink. I wait a while for it to dry by either placing it outside when its warm or by a fan if its not.

Hold it upside down and brush it with a foxtail (hand broom that you use with a dustpan).

I've washed keyboards in the dishwasher too. Just water like was said before. Always worked perfectly for me too. I did damage one by forgetting to turn off the dry setting, but that was my fault.
