computer not seeing cd drives in ME

okay this problem just started to occur rescently. I was using the comp yesterday and it was perfectly fine. Now for some reason, windows doesnt c my 2 cd drives i have. I didnt install anything or change anything between yesterday and today....

does anyoen have any ideas? i tried detecting new hardware, but it didnt do anything, ive also tried restarting the comp with a boot disc - with cd rom support and it works fine (suggesting to me its a windows problem). When i go to device manager - i dont c anything that refers to the cd drives, but i used to c something there (just cant rem what now)

can this problem b solved without a format and reinstall?

Try running a system restore from a date that things were still working right.

Also do a virus scan with the updated signature files, I know that Monkey.B can cause your CD drives to dissappear.

Try using Device Manager to remove the Hard Disk controllers and then restart. Windows will then redetect and restart the entire IDE chain.
