After sending an email to a friend, and getting a bounce, I began to suspect that I has some spyware/virus or possible trojan somewhere in my system. The bounce stated that I was rejected because the IP address was used to send spam. So I ran the beta MS anti spyware and got nothing. Then I ran Spybot. I'm not sure exactly what happened because I left my computer for a few minutes, but it ended up rebooting. Then I got a 'serious windows error' after that.
Can a virus mimic a windows error, as a means of throwing you off the trail?
I downloaded and ran Webroot Spy Sweeper and got an alert about a host file that I'm not sure about.
"Spy Sweeper has detected changes to your Hosts file that could be an attempt to redirect on Web address to a different address." I got this: parker.wan: 169.254.113.119 has been added, but Internet lookup reports no IP address returned.
So, now I'm not sure what to do. I have two computers networked. #1 is the one connected to the 'net, with #2 getting access with a modem & wireless router. Any advise would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Kathy
