I purchased a new 1.13Mhz processor for my Dell Inspiron 8100 to replace my 833Mhz. I have done a number of processor installations in desktop computers with success.

I was wondering if the installation is a fairly straight forward process similar to a desktop installation. I have used Artic Silver for all of my other projects with success. I have the necessary Dell documentation for the disassembly and assembly.

Thanks, Al:)

Laptop processor installation is fairly easy once you get the case apart and the heatsink off -- the only difference from desktop processors is that the socket has a screw-based retention mechanism instead of a lever-based one. However, getting the case off can be a pain, and it's easy to strip the heads of the screws on the heatsink.
