When you scan for your wireless network you are picking him up to because he is some where in your area If I might suggest encrypting your wireless network with WPA encyption if your wireless card and wireless access point support. check out my tutorial on how to do that. http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=150112

You can also set the router to only allow certain pc's onto the wireless network. If you check the network properties of your connection it will tell you the mac address of your adapter. Do that for each wireless adapter on your network and then use that list to enter the mac addresses into the router settings.

Ok lets start from the beginning...

I got an older linksys so i dont think i got WPA. I do got the newest drivers though.

I turned on WEP and i turned off ssid brodcast. Also i chganged my linksys ip address and i chaged the password to get in and change things.

Now i got a problem. My two wirelesss computer dont connect to the internet anymore. There is a signal to the linksys but it seems like the computer dont got the ip address to go through. Even my dads Mac(laptop) doest find the linksys anymore.

Please explain what i can do and at the end please tell me how i can add a password to my network everytime my wireless computers and wired computer try to connect.

Thanks for taking your time.:D

Sorry about the O i posted my mistake.

Forgot to add something.

For the WEP i put 128 bit as an option.

128 bit WEP is fine. However, turn the SSID broadcast back on till you get everything connected and profiles stored.

Even with that turned on it still doesn't work. It makes no difference. The laptop just says invailid IP address.
When i try to repair the connection to search for the new setting it takes forever and then says "Failed renewing the IP address" "Please contact your network administrator or ISP.

Sry im not a networking pro.

Are you entering the correct 128 bit WEP key in the card configuration utility when you are trying to connect?

Are your wired pc's connecting? To check click here ==> http://192.168.1.1 from a wired pc. If not you may want to reset the router to factory defaults and start from scratch.

where do i find that?

If you enabled 128 bit WEP in the router, you had to create a key........

Linksys creates a 20 digit hexadecimal key - you can make one up or let it generate one by using a passphrase. If you use the passphrase, it creates 4 keys, write down Key 1 and use that.

Have you read your router manual at all? It's on the CD that came with the router or you can download it from Linksys.
