Mouse will not turn off when the rest of the system in off. The little red light stays on all the time and runs the batterys down in a few days

See if the same problem happens on another system.
If so, then the mouse may be defective.

Are you referring to the red "tail light" or the light on the bottom of the mouse. The bottom light will stay on all the time. I had an MS Explorer wireless that ate batteries in about 7 to 10 days. I sold it and bought another and the batteries would last about 3 months?

ya because if it is wireless, the receiver can't send signal to the mouse to turn off, it can only send the data to move the mouse.

I have the same wireless mouse. My batteries last a VERY long time. I also use logitech mice on other system and those have on/off switches. I leave them on anyways. As long as the mouse isn't moving, it's consuming negligible amounts of power.

If your batteries are depleted quickly, then there's something wrong either with your mouse, or your batteries.

Thanks for you replies. When I use all these batteries up I'm going back to a wire.
