My aunt gave me an old Thinkpad 600E that she could not get to boot up anymore. I have discovered that if I go past the flying ducks, put in the date and time (every time, even after a new CMOS battery),past the error code 161 and 163 screen , stall at the I/O screen, then reboot, go past the flying ducks, past the error code 161 and 163 screen, press the f key and continually alternate between f9, f10, and f11, it will load windows (98) and it will run! I understand that this laptop is completely screwed. But my friend told me that the flying ducks actually mean something specific. Does anyone have any input and do I have any chance of fixing this thing?
