transfer files

i'm needing to transfer some dos programs and related files from a window 2000 pc to a new xp pc.

what is the best way to do this? i have an external hard drive i could use. will these dos programs run on xp?

anything in particular that i should concern myself with?

Chances are that if they ran OK under Windows 2000, you have a good chance of them running OK under Windows XP. Many DOS programs are fairly simple, and require little or no installation - and can run so long as all the necessary files are in the program's directory (or "folder"). Others, it's true, are more complicated, and have setup routines that can be tricky to get to work with newer systems - in these cases, a DOS emulator can sometime help.

If the programs you have are the simple type, and run from folders with unique names, you should be able to copy them over any number of ways & be OK.

If the programs run setup routines & create several .ini files, you might want pick and choose which files migrate over, perhaps editing the DOS program's .ini file to match the new system.
