Are you able to lock-out "Clear History" for IE??

Is there anyway to prevent a user from clearing the history for internet explorer? The days are set to "30" days but they keep clearing out where they go when they get off the computer...

Is there a way to lock the folder or disable access to the IE options?? anything??

Only way I can find is to edit the registry. If you're not comfortable editing the registry though, you might want to wait for some more answers. Here's a link to how to do it that way though.

I just tried what it said on that site and it didn't work... Anyone else have any other options?

I'll check into disabling the clear history in IE (I think what they said to do should have work), but an alternative would be to install somekind of keylogger that records every keystroke the person does, you could then tell what websites they visited from the log.

Here is some more in-depth info on doing this for either individual users or everyone. Be sure the user does not have administrator rights or googling for "grayed out history" or something like that will allow them to reverse the setting.

If you are using "XP Pro" try the winxp group policy editor. Type "gpedit.msc" in a run dialog box. Go slowly and carfeully in there though. There are a lot of settings that can be changed and they are somtiems difficult to find again. If you go to 'User configurations ==> administrative templates ==>windows components ==> internet explorer ==>internet control panel and then click on "disable the general page". Choose "enable" and it is 'disabled'. Be aware though that are other ways to clear the history folder. If your users are clueless you are alright but users like this are getting more and more scarce.

XP Home Edition and the person is using the main admin account... Luckily, the person isn't a expert at the computer, just a main normal user...

Gpedit isnt available for Home. Try Fresh UI (http://www.download.com/Fresh-UI/3640-2094_4-10490154.html?tag=tab_ur) I have used it before but not in a while, It will do what you need it to do. If the user discovers it you may want to put it in a network share that they can not access or look for a program that will password protect it from use.
