Greetings everyone:

I need a notebook pc. Primarily for business use but im gonna need internet access anyplace i may go. hotspot or no hotspot, dialup or no dialup. A modem in it too i guess... I dont know anything about notebooks, i dont like them but im gonna have to get one and get used to using it. A large screen and half decent sound quality would be nice as well.

Price range: $1000 to $1300 or so

Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions.

Mike

For business, I have never gone wrong with Dell Lattitudes. They work great and you can buy an optional docking station (port replicator). The docking station allows you to hook up all of your peripherals and just drop your computer into the dock. It not only makes it convenient but helps solve one of the biggest laptop problem, which is the constant plugging/unplugging of the power connector can sometimes loosen the internal connector.

The Lattitude D510 is usually about the cheapest. I posted some promo codes in an earlier post that expire today.

Keep in mind that Verizon or Sprint EV-DO (or the equivalent from Cingular) will cost $45 to $80 a month. That's the only way to get internet access everywhere you go, though. If you can't find a laptop in that $1000 to $1300 price range with built-in EVDO, you can get a PCMCIA card for any laptop and use that to connect.
