I just built my own computer. I bought a new Radeon video card. When i plug it in and start up the computer, the speaker beeps 4 times and nothing comes up on the monitor. The card is in an AGP bus.

HOWEVER

When I plug in my old pci card from an old computer, the monitor works fine.
The radeon manual says to uninstall old video adapter drivers before installing new card, and install generic VGA adapters. How do i do this while using the old card?
Is this a bios problem?

My system
AMD Athlon 1Ghz
128 pc133 SDRAM
30 GB Maxtor HD
ECS K7VZA mainboard
ACER CDRW

Install the old card, boot to safe mode by pressing F8, go into control panel and change the settings there.

BUT, your motherboard might have a jumper or bios setting that's needed for an agp video card. Your manual should indicate such.

So which drivers do I load? The drivers that came with my new video card? Or generic video card drivers? If the generic ones, what are they called?

You load the Windows generic VGA drivers. Then put the AGP card in, and see if it will work. If it does, load your new drivers.

Windows should load the generic default drivers when it is first started after installing the card. You then load the drivers from the disk, and then restart the machine which will then change to these drivers. Then set your display properties.

If you get beeps and no display when you try to boot up, the card is not properly seated in the slot.
