hello, I just bought a new laptop and its a few weeks old, I want to put a few games on it to play once in awhile, Ive tried a demo of Age of Empires 3, Ive tried Mall tycoon, a few MMO low requirement ones and GTA vice city, after a few mins prolly less than 1 the laptop crashes a ble screen comes up woth lots of writing on it but it doesnt stay long enough to be able to read anything, than the laptop does a drive check and reboots. This happens with any game and most games ive tried are very low requirements compared to my latops specs, the are: AMD Turion 64 1.6 GHz, 1024MB Ram a inboard video card that has 64MB video shared with the RAM, and two 45GB HDD. the game requirements are around 800MHz - 1.2GHz proc, 256/512MB ram and a video card with 32MB of memory. does anyone know what could be causing this problem and how to fix it??

P.S. the laptop I bought was an acer and it was the one that the store used to display,

P.P.S. I can play wolfenstien enemy territoy without the laptop crashing and some games I tried should be lower quality than that, ive only played the game for maybe 30 mins or so at a time.

any help would be very useful, thanks

Believe it or not it could be your sound card. I had that problem years ago on my kids PC and took me forever to trace it to the el cheapo sound card. Also be sure to check for the latest video drivers and all other drivers for that laptop. What make and model is it?? Truthfully though laptops are not going to be the geatest thing for inense gaming machines, integrated video is not really made for that kind of intense usage...

It said something about not being able to play hardware buffer and only able to use software buffer??
Would any of this stuff create a problem?
I know laptops cant play games very well, but what about some older ones? Im not looking to play the newest games, but hopefully able to play something.

thanks for the help,

Control panel, system, advanced, startup and recovery options. Uncheck the box for restart on error and copy down what the first few lines of the bluescreen says. This will be your best clue for troubleshooting the problem.

ok, thanks glc I can read the error now, heres what I got:

...a problem occured and windows shutdown to prevent damages to your computer... (somthing like that)

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: SISGRV.dll
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA_

some other info on what to do, uninstall hardware, removing anything recently installed ect...

Technical Info:
*** STOP: 0X00000050 (0XEE4 B3FFC......)
....

SISGRV.dll address BFA2DF8E base at BF9D4000 Date Stamp 42248e94

begining Physical memory dump
Physical memory dump complete
...

thats basically what it said in short, the numbers may be off a little bit.

It looks like an error with the graphic card would this probem be fixable? or something about paged and nonpaged memory?

Update your video driver to the latest one from SiS, not Acer.

ohh Wow thanks alot, this sound slike good news :D , Ill download the driver ASAP and tell you if it fixed the problem or not, hopefully it will :)

I do have one question... How did you tell which of the drivers was the right one, theres 2 of the exact same driver and they both look the same to me, they both support the sis 760GX and my OS so does it matter?

Thanks again!

Exact same file name - it must just be a double listing.
