I had to use my WinXP on my laptop to format the disk and get it running. But since I already have XP installed on my desktop, how do I remove XP and reinstall Win98 on the laptop?
Keep in mind that my laptop does not have a floppy drive but only a CDROM drive.

The type of answer will depend on whether you have the required device drivers on CD as supplied by the manufacturer or possibly a restore CD.
My first inclination would be for you to pull the hard drive and mount it in the desktop, load the 98 on it there (possibly putting the install stuff on the drive itself) then using regedit to delete the enum in the registry and reinstalling in the laptop.
The 98 CD is bootable. You can install it from the CD by changing the boot order but there may be glitches depending what parts are on the laptop and how they are glued together.
Might also help if you would tell us what you have. Others may have had the same experience and be able to advise on pitfalls.
Boot it with the 98 CD, use FDISK to delete all partitions - both DOS and non-DOS. Then you can create a new partition and install 98 the traditional way.
