help with trojan or virus

I think i may have a trojan or virus. I can not run my norton, evry time i try it shuts down. Can not even run from a disc. If i try to go to a site that will scan me for a trojan, it shuts down explorer, same think if i try to link to a site from here that goes to a trojan or anti virus site. I had to go to a different comp to even post this, cause after i typrd all this in and hit submit it said explorer could not find page. I have this comp and another one networked with the troubled comp. I have disconnected that one from the network for now. Is there anything i can do besides wipe the hard drive and start over, if it will even let me do that. Have even tried to restore to an ealier date and it wont do that either. Please help:eek:

Boot into safe mode w/o networking and try running your AV.

ok, ran norton in safe mode and it did not find a thing, but have not updated in about a month or so. anything else i can do???

I see you have been here awhile have noticed that there are good amout of members here are not big fans of Norton, I woud suggest you remove Norton and download AVG Free, which can be found here, www.grisoft.com and run it, and I bet a zillion dollars, that your problem will be gone.

Best part of AVG is it is free, do a search on this site on AVG, and you will see the light, and dump Norton in a heartbeat.

I think i got it. I ran norton but found nothing, so i ran spybot in safe mode and it found a backdoorwin thing and removed it and now norton is running in regular xp mode.

Yes, it is good to cross check things... no single AV or AS will find everything. Glad to see you got it sorted out.
