I have been experimenting with "live" versions of all the popular linux distros(trying to assess which will suit me best) In all cases I have not been able to access the internet. There appears a window with boxes for my isp my password and sometimes my ip address. This window does not appear to be "active" as when I click on them nothing happens. Am I missing a step somewhere ? There appears to be many code words which are completely different to windows Where can I get basic instruction for a "newbie"
Exactly how do you connect to the Internet?

On my spare pc using win Me
That's not what I meant. Dialup, broadband, USB, Ethernet, with a router - that kind of stuff.

I have now got another modem with the latest linux drivers on cd (terra copperjet adsl usb) I cannot find how to install this modem. I have xandros on my hdd but I have 10 other distros mostly "live" versions. Could someone point me in the right direction please !
You would be MUCH better off getting an Ethernet-capable modem - those require NO drivers. In fact, if you get a combo modem/router, you wouldn't even have to set up PPPoE - the router would handle it.
