Searching through my program files folders, I found a folder named DNS. I became suspicious of this since, 1. I don't know what DNS is and 2. within the folder one of the file dates is the same date that I got nailed with a bug last August, hence my previous windows reinstall ? a couple nights ago. Within the folder are several files:

affid.dat
Catcher.dll
cwebpage.dll
gui.exe
regexpDate.dat
uid.dat
urls.dat
version.txt
x.bmp

Searching the interweb for the gui.exe, I found this

http://www.greatis.com/appdata/d/_/_program%20files__gui.exe_Removal.htm

and this

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.shorty.html.

I currently run McAfee and no hits are made on scan. I'm also currently in the process of installing Symantec in order to run and, hopefully, discover if this is a problem.

Meanwhile, whats the poop? Bad spyware bug or harmless crap?

Thanks in advance.

It's a piece of adware. Here (http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/gui/) is a page that gives more information on the program.
I'd suggest running Ad-Aware SE, Spybot Search and Destroy and run full scans. If you can't get these to run, try an online scan at ewido (http://www.ewido.net/en/).
