Ok, i guess its the time for deciding on the parts for my first build. I got nothing at all. Ive been playing on a sony vaio laptop forever and its dying on me..lol

Budget is about $1000 but im willing to go a little bit over for the case.

I just need a decent computer to run Lineage II on max settings, and to be able to play BF2 coz i havent played it yet (lol) and my current comp doesnt support it. ><

Currently I have a set up I ripped off from some other thread but I was thinking about getting an SLi ready motherboard so I can possibly put some dual graphic cards later on.

So if any1 could give me some advice, itd help a lot. thanks :)

Well, the top graphics card of the day seems to be the 7900 GTX and they sell for around $550. I went with an X1900XT for around $450, and I'm able to play FEAR at max resolution (19" LCD) without a problem.

Based on my recent build experience, I think you should decide on your graphics card and then build your system around it - especially for a gaming rig.

My advice is to search out several benchmarks of the graphics cards that you're considering (you may even find a different card that you didn't know about). Once you choose your card, you can find out what components other folks are using with that card to build the best system.

Good luck!

With that budget, planning for SLI is going to mean you will have to cut back on some things - SLI really is not a cost effective way to increase performance and I doubt it ever will be. It's a creative marketing decision by Nvidia to sell more cards. I'd look at the $1000 build in the Tips and Tricks section and base things around that. SLI boards cost more than single slot boards and so do SLI-certified power supplies. You may be able to do a dual core 3800+ at that price which will do a very nice job.
