HP laserjet 1300 needs a print server

Hello:

I need to hook up a small network at my church. A HP laserjet 1300 was donated and the Pastor and secratary would like to share it between them. I need to find a wired and wireless printer server solution (something that is compatible /w the printer) for either solution. I'll will be pushing for everthing wired except for maybe the laptop, but I'll have to see what the church decides. They also might be getting a highspeed internet connection, so I'll probably getting a wireless router /w a 4 port switch, and run the computers and printer through it.

I've contacted HP about finding a print server, and I haven't gotten a response back yet. I've also looked at a couple of print server vendor sites for compatability, and there isn't any information listed either. I guess if nothing else I'll be makeing calls next week.

Bottom of the page has all compatible HP JetDirect print servers, which is the way I recommend you go rather than some cheap universal USB or parallel port print server. The LIO models are internal, they go into a slot on the printer. You can also get external if you choose. You do not need a wireless print server if the printer is close to the router/switch - just use a wired print server and a piece of CAT5. Wireless clients can still print to it.

I would like to get the HP JetDirect, but I don't think they'll go for that (too much money). At least I can give them a rough estimate as to how much money the entire setup will cost.

glc- would the <a href="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833124140" target="blank">LINKSYS WKPC54G</a> kit be good for this setup? I plan on haveing the secretary's desktop and printer wired, and the pastor's laptop /w the adaptor. What router/adaptor kit or combo would you suggest currently?

I wouldn't get that kit. The router appears to be a downgraded version of a WRT54G and the reviews sure don't look too good.

Before submitting a proposal, look at 2 things. Does the pastor's laptop already have an internal wireless adapter? Does the 1300 possibly already have a print server (1300n)?

I'd get a WRT54G (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833124010) and if the pastor does need a card, a WPC54G (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833124110).

An alternative to a print server is install the 1300 on the secretary's machine and share it. The only real disadvantage is it has to be left on to print from another computer.

Looks like I need to gather some more info on specifics. I can tell you that the printer is not a 1300n (I have documentation /w me), but I need to figure out what exactly they would "like". Cost will be the determining factor. I just wanted to research available options. I'll post if I need any further help.
