Recently, my friend's computer had alot of problems. When he started it up, he would log into windows. After a minute or two the screen would shut itself off. I couldn't figure out the problem so he had a family member look into it. This family member deals with computers all the time. He told me that his family member said that CCleaner has a virus in it and that was the cause of the problem. I have had this program for a while and I havn't really noticed anything. I run WIN Defender and AVG and they pick up nothing. Is this a known rumor or what?

I've not heard of the program having a virus, I know it's recommended by PCWORLD as a good reg tool.

I don't even think it is a rumor... this is the first I have heard about this, and I HIGHLY doubt it.
I think his family member is smoking crack or something. That's ridiculous.

ROFL... Probably just some misinterpreted information that got twisted along the way. Though if it did have a virus (which I HIGHLY Doubt), they would have us fooled.

That's what I thought. I've been using this program for a year now and I han't had any problems with it. He said it causes viruses not built into them. But any way thanks. I thought I would pass this by the experts
The only thing I can think of that might make someone think that is - when it's accessing the temp files and temporary internet files to clean them out, if there's a virus in there, most active antivirus protection WILL pop up a warning. I see that all the time. It's not CREATING a virus - it's UNCOVERING one that's already there.
