Just started to learn how computers tick. Took the cover off played around by taking out floppy drive and replacing it and now it does not work. Made sure power and ide cable inserted correctly. At boot it says floppy fail (40).
thanks in anticipation Rufus

Is the drive light (the green light) staying on as your boot? Is there anything inside the drive when you boot?

It's very easy to reconnect the cables incorrectly. If you connect the power cable upside down, you will literally burn the drive out. If you connect the ribbon cable backwards, the light will remain on. It's also easy to connect the ribbon cable or the power cable off 1 whole row of pins.

Depending on the system you are running you can check the BIOS. However, that might take some detail. Do not attempt unless you know what you are doing. The BIOS tells the computer that you have a floppy. If your BIOS is correct you can try a new floppy to see if that one works. These are just suggestions.
