AMD X2 4400 temps

AMD X2 4400+, currently at 35c, according to speedfan. Idle temps range anywhere from 35-40c. On load, It runs up to 55-59c. I am using a Zalman copper aluminum heatsing and arctic silver ceramique.

I was wondering if anyone has this processor? I don't know if these temps are okay. In only one instance, I ran Utorrent and a windowed 3d game, and it froze for about 4 seconds. I've had this computer for a bit over 2 months. Aside from that, the computer has been running pretty smoothly.

Those are fine temps. If you are concerned, you might want to open it up and check the heatsink and whatnot for dust (even if it's only been 2 months).

I dusted it a couple of days ago with canned air. Squeaky clean.
With your opinion, I think I can sleep a little better at night hahah....

Your load temperatures seem a little on the high side to me. I'd prefer they be in the lower 50's at the highest. You might want to reapply some AS5 to the CPU and reseat your heat sink and fan. JMO.

Hmm... I read the directions on applying thermal paste. >_>; The friend who helped me build the pc did put on a little too much. He even said, "more couldn't hurt."

That scared me. I will reapply the paste and set the heatsink later tonight. Hopefully I'll get better results.

You need about the size of a grain of rice, or a bb, in the middle of the CPU. The heatsink will spread it out as it's compressed on down onto the CPU. Remember, also, that AS5 takes about 200 hours to fully "set". Generally, you will see a decline in temperatures over that time, though rarely is it drastic (ie. 2-4C).

i have the 4400 also and my temps at idle are 37C...and they can go up to 42C after a couple hours of gaming. i havent tried cpuburn yet. im running the stock cooler with AS3 at the moment. fan rpm 2700.

I have a x24400 as well. copper Xp90heat sink.
Idle runs 34-35 C
Load with f@h 43-46C
I have some fan noise....:o
I would also check your case air flow. You may be just blowing hot air around.

Exactly. Eggs, you may want to inform your friend that less is more in the case of Arctic Silver. The idea is to make better contact between the heatsink and cpu so that heat can transfer easily. If your friend used too much, the heat will not transfer properly. Be sure to follow the <a href="http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm"target="_blank">Arctic Silver Instructions</a> carefully.
