What do you all use to cut holes in your case?

I'm planning on cutting a hole in a new case I'm buying. It's a Silverstone Temjin TJ01B, those of you that have seen the stamped fan grill will understand why. I was just wondering whether I should use a hole saw or a jigsaw. And whether a hand drill or pillar drill would be easiest to use if I used a hole saw.

I too have used a Dremel to cut holes in my case. It works. Plus, Dremels are just nice to have around the house for a lot of reasons.

To me it just looks like a sanding tool, maybe I'm looking at the wrong attachment?

I have used both a Dremel and a hole saw depending on where I am drilling the hole. With the hole saw go really easy on the pressure and give the teeth pleanty of time to make the cut. Clean up the burrs with some wet or dry aluminum oxide sandpaper.

A hole saw works well,you'll need one designed for cutting metal and it's best to use a piece of wood behind the area you want to cut,just hold it in place with some clamps.
Cut slowly and keep spraying the cut with wd40, liquid wrench,etc.

This kit contains a case cutting tool. http://www.coolerguys.com/casemodkit.html it allows you to mod your case to put a window in it.

Do your hands a favor, use a Dremel. I bought one of those case cutters when I put the window kit in my other computer...my hands hurt for a week. The Dremel will be much faster and easier on your hands. It took me over 2 hours to cut the hole with the case cutters.

dremel is the absolute best tool for anything!!! i have owned 3 over the years, but the one i use now is the one my dad bought in 1986!!! still going strong!!!! use the dremel its amazing.

Another for the Dremel. IMO, like most others, it would be the easier... while I haven't used one to mod a case, I have used a Dremel for various other projects and thin metal cutting.

Id use a hole saw , a jigsaw or reciprocating saw . last thing i used was a air grinder with a tungsten carbide bit . they rip through anyhting but you have to be carefull . dremels are week little machines i like the air grinders better . then again i have a 300 gallon compressor . the plasma cutter would just me messy . if you have to a drill and a pair of tin snips would do the job . drill a hole big enogh for the snips and cut away (by the way this is more difficult .then the rest . a basic drill should be able to rip through your case like butter , its what 22 or 20g sheet metal . 14v cordless works . i use the 12 amp 5/8 t-drill for fun thow (not advised) looking at dremels site , i like the diamond disk

hahahaha try using a water cutting machine. those things are amazing if you have ever gotten to see one in action. i also own one of those new dremel roto zip tools, and theyre not all that great. but what i have done to cut shapes in metal in the past was take one of the bits from the roto zip and stick it in a drill press. didnt have too much speed but it works pretty good.

Well its been quite a few years since there has even been a post on here so i thought id give it an update. Dremel works wonders and is multi purpose, And just about anything that will cut metal, or now plastic, with out ruining it will work dremel makes it easier and a good bit faster and many people have one now a days.
