xbox dvd drive to pc

Hi im trying to install my xbox dvd drive on my computer , anyone think it will work .

The XBOX dvd drive is just an ordinary drive so it will work. However the facia will be weired since you wond have the face of an XBOX on your computer but it will word. THe Hard Drive too is a 20GB drive that will run in a computer too.

I think the Xbox dvd drive is a like a slim Samsung or LiteOn drive. Not positive though. And I remember they switched brands through the manufacturing at one point too.

ya this one is a samsung . i have to have it run off the xbox ,for power and i ran a ide to my mobo . it works perfectly i didint have to install anything it was just there . I should really but a dvd drive one day thow . you can pop off the xbox front jus tlike any ordinary drive . I wonder if there is a adapter for this weird plug . there are about 10 yellow wires for power instead of the standard 4 thats why i cant hook it to my mobo . but hey it works . world of warcraft here i come lol

Ya know... if you need a DVD drive that badly and don't care about your XBOX.. there's quite a few folks who would pay handsomely for a SAMSUNG XBOX DRIVE as they are they best yet. I don't think that I can give you the link to a site that sells them due to the fact that the site offers mod chips..(I don't know if it's against forum rules or not)... but the asking price for a new Thompson XBOX DVD drive is $45.00 and it should be noted that the Thompson is considered the WORST XBOX drive ever.

ya , I have seen some on the internet for some pretty good $$$ . there are x16 dvd drives for them , it's funny that the 360 only has a x 12 . you can also run any drive on them , you just put it on the same ide cable and set it to slave , pull the power off a splitter from the hard drive , i only read about this i duno how well it would work . i agree with the old drives thow , my other xbox crapped out (well jsut the drive ) sold it to eb games for 80 bucks thow

That must have been the drive I had in mine until it fried. It had problems reading a lot of DVD's and froze up on same games.

Could be. There have been 3 different models as far as I know. The reason the samsung is so popular amongst modders is the fact that it can read CD-R/RW where the other models will struggle to do so.

My softmodded xbox has the same crappy Thompson drive though I do have a Samsung PC drive that can be converted for use on XBOX... just haven't done it yet.
