If you read elsewhere, you will find that I am building my first PC of my own. I have two HD's: A 40Gb and an 80Gb. My question: which is a better choice, using the smaller one as the master and installing the OS on it and using the larger for the programs or vise-versa?

Couple other considerations. What speed are they? 7200 rpm is better than 5400 (or slower). What cache do they have? If both are 7200, one has 2Mb cache and the other has 8Mb cache, use the 8.

OK, here is what I have:
1 - Quantum LB10A011 ; 10Gb ; 512Kb cache ; 5400RPM ; ATA 66.
2 - Western Digital WD400BB ; 40Gb ; 2Mb cache ; 7200RPM ; ATA 100.
Note : My motherboard is ATA 33, if that makes a diference.
Robert.

Use the 40GB Western Digital as your main drive and install the OS and all your programs on it. Use the 10GB Quantum as a storage drive.

I agree on the 40Gb but I'd suggest using the 10Gb as a paperweight! :D Those things sound like a meat grinder. Or use it to play with a Linux distro like Ubuntu.

Joking aside, I use Windows, so I need not know what Linux is.
Yeah, I know, the PII will not support XP, I have to use W98SE on that one :( .
OK, I will use the 40, and slave the 10 for dumping anything else.
Robert.
A PII supports XP fine as long as you have a big enough hard drive and plenty of ram.
