my water cooling system has develop tiny traces of greenish substance on the pipes. be it bacteria colonies, algea, whatever. im gonna change the coolant, but wanna get rid of the organisms beforehand, so they wont reproduce again. my teacher recomended mixing 1/4 teaspoon bleach with distilled water. i wana know a good way, so i dont corrode/damage the metals.
my guesses: freezing, uv radioation (but i cant sundry my tomatoes, oops i mean my watercooling)
Bleach won't bother anything, especially at the dilute levels you're describing. It WILL wipe out any organisms, including algae, quite effectively.

What are the pipes made of?

Bleach may damage plastic, so if you have plastic pipes or pipe fittings, it's probably best to stay away.

lets say i use bleech and then quickly clean the plastic pipes. would they still get seriously damage the pipes as to cause punctures.

Hmmm, seems like bleach comes in plastic bottles.;) :D :D
Maybe some forms of plastic would be affected by concentrated bleach, but I highly doubt a dilute solution run through the system for a short period of time would hurt anything. Follow up with a clean water flush and it should be fine. JMO.

Hence the may damage.
It depends entirely on the type of plastic.

I have used bleach and it does not harm anything. A quarter cup of bleach is overkill. Try a few drops instead. You do need to flush out your system since algae acts as an insulator and has the potential to get caught up in the cooling vanes/channels in your cooling block and your radiator. If you have a closed loop system then you do not need as much bleach since it will not evaporate.
