My dads hard drive went out so he went and bought a new 80 gig western digital. Well the computer set around awhile before he decide to fix it. We tried to install the hard drive but it wouldn't boot. So we thought that the power supply went out so he bought a new case with a power supply in it. Hooked everthing up and still the same thing no boot. So we thought the mother board went out so he buys a used mother board and processer from ebay and uses his old ram. Put it all together in the new case and still no boot. What could be wrong?

Could we have some more specific specs? What parts exactly did you have, and what did you get new?

He has a new atx case with power supply,a used mother board and processor from ebay and a new 80 gig wester digital hard drive. The only parts he is using from the old computer is the ram, cd drive and all the cables. Also he has tried different ram and still no boot.

What exact motherboard model and CPU does he have? We need to make sure everything is compatible before going on...
Going back to the orignal configuration, when you try to boot, does it POST at all? Or does it just shut down?
Wouldn't hurt to give this a try:

Help
How do you have the hard drive jumpered? WD's can't be set to Master if there's no slave present - you have to remove the jumper or use cable select.

I have the MB out on the desk and only have the processor, 1 stick of ram, power supply and moniter hooked up. Still no post or beeps. I took the cpu out and put it in my MB and it works great. So its not the cpu. We have tried 5 different sticks of ram. We have tried a new power supply. Also hooked another moniter to it. What else could I check?

Bad/incompatible memory, defective power supply or mobo. Pull all the memory out and see if you get any beeps.
Does your mobo have the 2x2 square connector near the cpu? Have you plugged in the appropriate connector from the power supply?

no offence but:
is the power button on the case turned on?
are you sure the power outlet supplies current (plug a lamp in) or is there some wall switch that controls the power outlet?
have you tried using a different cable?

I'm getting power to the board because the cpu fas comes on but it will not post. I have all the wires hooked right. I have the MB out on the desk and only have the processor, 1 stick of ram, power supply and moniter hooked up. Still no post or beeps. I took the cpu out and put it in my MB and it works great. So its not the cpu. We have tried 5 different sticks of ram all pc133. We have tried a new power supply. Also hooked another moniter to it. I get no beeps with all the memory out. Do you think its a bad MB?

If you've tried a new/different psu, you've tested the cpu in another mobo and you get no beeps with the memory removed, I'd say you have a defective mobo. It probably won't help but check your mobo manual on how to clear the CMOS. Try it.

Tried clearing the CMOS earlier with no luck.
I think you are finding out why we don't recommend ECS and other low priced motherboards.
