View Full Version : Very serious problem with cooling CPU - what to do help???

I don't know what to do any more with my CPU cooling I tried don't know how many coolers (exept water coolers) and it's still overheating but only when I play the games it freezes everything and I'm forced to reboot manualy.
Here now I'll give you some spec:
While I'm writing this temp of CPU is 55 - 56 deg Celsius
when I start the game it goes to 65 and freezes everything
It's not overclocked CPU it's working on auto settings for everything
and this are the spec:

Windows is XP pro with Sp2, 1Gb of PC2700 333Mhz memory, 120 G HD in tree partitions .
More info: It's cleaned regulary (no dust) it has Silver based compound, I even tried to add small cooler on side and didn't help, curent cooler is thermaltake something bla bla(best of many).... what to do any ideas ?

EDIT: I almost forgot to mention that system teperature is never above 34 deg Celsius (I have two 120mm fans cooling the system)!!!

Where do you have those two 120mm fans? And which way are they moving air? (exhaust or intake)

Some possible causes, poor airflow due to small case, poor case design, rats nest of wires blocking airflow, fan(s) blowing in the wrong direction and creating a dead spot near the procesor.

Where do you have those two 120mm fans? And which way are they moving air? (exhaust or intake)

One in( back of case) and second out (side of case)?

Case is standard midi case, no "rats nests of wires" even close to CPU some other ideas!!!

One in( back of case) and second out (side of case)?Try reversing the fans...the fan on the rear of the case should blow out. The side fan you might want to remove for now just to see how the temps are. Does that case have a fan port on the front of the case?

Check to see that the heatsink is sitting flat and level on the CPU die. Make sure the heatsink isn't making contact with anything else, just the CPU die and the metal clip. The metal clip should make contact with the heatsink directly over the CPU die.

The amount of thermal compound will affect the temps too...too much thermal compound acts like an insulator and prevents thermal transfer. You only want a very thin film of thermal compound on the CPU and heatsink...both surfaces must make contact with each other for thermal transfer to occur.

Thanks Cricket for replay I already did what u suggesting, and even with only one fan system temp is stady on 30-31 C and I know that (but thanks for remainding me) about thermal compond and contact betwn CPU and Hsink. REM: and now I'm considering changing my motherboard I dont know why yet but it's gut filing!!!

My gut filling was right I have swaped motherboard for a new one and my CPU temp is now around 44-45 deg Celsius (113 F) and I can play games again.
What happened is a mistery still trying to find out???
