Just ordered 2 Dell LCD’s for my two new home builds. Now I’m having trouble deciding on speakers. Dell sells a Sound Bar that attaches to the bottom of the LCD. This is a very clean solution. No wires, no speakers, etc. Delivers 10 watts of total RMS output (what ever that means :-).

Because our desk space is so limited (18 inches!) we are trying to minimize clutter (LCDs, wireless mouse & keyboard, etc.). For my personal needs – the sound bar would do just fine. But, I worry about the kids. They do listen to music on the computer. For the same price, I can get these highly rated speakers with a sub woofer (and deal with the wires, speakers, and woofer).

Which would you recommend I buy???

If it was me, I would get the sound bar and tell the kids that when they get a job they can get whatever speakers they want. ;)

Just Kidding! :)

I have a set of Logitech speakes similar to the one in the link. I have been very happy with the sound. Music sounds great. The wires do not bother me so much, I just use some wire ties to clean things up a little.

The choice is yours but I can personally recommend the linked speakers you've chosen. My son has those same speakers and loves them. Keep in mind they have a REALLY strong base.

Yeah, they're cool alright. But there's a big difference between $157 and $42! One step up from a Sound Bar isn't Klipsch.

Plus, that sub that comes with the Klipsch set is huge, he wouldn't have room

Well… I just won an EBay auction – 2 Dell Speakers Bars for $3.75 (+14.99 shipping) – so less than $10.00 a piece. If I don’t like them, no big deal. If I do (and I expect to – my office mate loves his) – I did well…

Don't forget headphones. A nice Senheiser set can give you quite a bit of bass and dynamic range while remaining silent for everybody else in the household. Or are you looking forward to having the latest boyband crooning at top volume :D
