Bought a rca digital camera. Downloaded software. Computer doesn't even recognize camera. Found a conflict in my modems. Says:
no modem installed
comm 1 sportster 288000 internal
comm 1 vga digital camera
comm 2 serial mouse
This is a gateway 2000 computer with windows 95
Any help would be appreciated
Does your computer have 2 external serial ports - and you have the mouse on one of them and trying to install the camera on the other? If this is the case, you are going to have to do the following:
Boot into SAFE MODE and remove ALL modems, cameras, and com ports. Shut down and remove the modem from the machine.
Go into the BIOS and set both com ports to AUTO. If this is not an available setting, make one of them Com 1 and the other Com 2. Restart and verify Windows installs Com 1 and Com 2, and that your mouse still works. Then install your camera on the other port.
Rejumper the modem to "plug and play" - on Sportsters this is usually just removing ALL jumpers - and reinstall it. It should plug and play and ask for the install disk. Have it ready - if you don't have one, download the installer from USR or Gateway. The model number of the modem is on the little bar code sticker attached to the connector block.
