I plan on buying an lcd from here

Are Dell monitors good and if so which would you recommend me? Im not sure on which to get.

I preferably want a 19" and my budget is around $200-250.

i have a dell 1905fp and i love it.
i wouldn't buy refurbished anything.

Hi,

Dell monitors are very good, however sometimes posses certain problems. for example:
1. Pixles on screen (You need to rub that with a peice of cloth and if it does not work ok, then there is some problem).
2. Monitors just work fine on 1280X768 resulotion however if you have Video card of 128MB or less and increase resolution on monitor then there will be 2 black strips on left and right hand corners.
3. Do not go for DELL 2005FPW as they were shiiped with some manufacturing defects. They were having bright corners.
4. In some DELL monitors the Graphics Adapter is not synchronizing properly with the Flat Panel over the DVI connection, and timing out. New Flat Panels and most of the replacement monitors should have firmware updated.

I would ideally recomed Dell UltraSharp 1907FP 19-inch Flat Panel LCD Monitor, which is within your budget and have heard about market reviews , they are pretty good.

Refurbished monitor if given with 3 years warranty will do good. However do check with the warranty part.

I just purchased 2 Dell 1907FP’s and I am very happy with them. No dead or stuck pixels.

If you Google these monitors, you will see quite a controversy going on. Seems Dell uses 3 different panel manufacturers. On paper – the specs are different – and folks are not happy about this. There are many (including myself) who do not believe these numbers mean a whole lot.

The 1907fp’s are not an 8-bit panel (like the 1905fp’s were). You will have to pay a lot more $$ for an 8-bit panel. All LCD’s in the “budget” price range are 6-bit. If you are a gamer – then this is a good thing because they are faster.

IMO, these monitors are a great value. With this price break – they are less $$ than most of the 19” on the market, the panel quality is the same (if not better), and they have lots of extras not found on other LCD’s including a 3-year warranty, a stand that has height adjustment (try finding that on the other LCD’s) pivot, tilt, and rotation (again – try finding that on the competition).

I’ve been researching and agonizing over my LCD buying decision for quite a while now and in the end – I am very happy with my decision to go with the Dell 1907fp – and for just $219!!! :-)

About the problems above, are there any chances that they may occur on the 1907fp? I also hear that it's a little wobbly. would that be a big deal?

Would it also perform well at games?

Just wondering. How much more would the 1905fp be?

Some gamers don’t believe any LCD can match a good CRT.

If you want an LCD – and money is not a problem – you can find a better LCD than this Dell.

If you want an LCD and you are on a budget – then I think the 1907fp is the best value out there. At this discounted price that is – this LCD normally sells for $339 – right now you can get it for $219.

Game wise – I think you will find the 1907fp as good as any. The 6-bit panel has a 8ms response time.

Personally – although I too have read that the stand is “wobbly” – I’m very confused by that. I find it very beefy and very stable. This monitor just “looks” good – even when off. :-)

The 1905fp’s are discontinued – replaced by the 1907fp’s. You can still find them at other outlets – but I think they are in the High $300 range. They are also an 8-bit panel. This means truer color (if photo editing is your thing) but slower response time (20 ms) – and is therefore not considered a good gaming LCD.

I will be very surprised if you are not pleased with your unit. <Baring any defects that is. If by some unlucky chance you do have a defect, Dell is quick to replace the LCD at their expense.>

As soon as you receive the package – I think you will be impressed. This thing is packaged right, and comes with a VGA cable, a DVI cable, a cable to plug into your USB port – giving you 4 new USB ports right on the monitor. A nice manual and a CD with everything you need to know right there. The monitor is heavy – leading you to feel that it is indeed a quality item. Once you plug it in, and turn it on, you can’t help by being blown away by the beautiful images it produces.

From all the reading I have done – most people feel the factory setting for color, brightness, contrast, gamma, etc is not the optimum. Many spend hours “tweaking” these settings – both on their video cards and the LCD itself. I’ve searched, but have not found any “free” calibration programs – so you have to do it manually. Personally, I think it looks awesome right out of the box – but because of everything I have read – I’ll probably play with my settings as well.

I also have a 1907fp and I am very pleased with it. It compares very closely with my Samsung 940b. The adjustable stand is a big plus.

I know I can still adjust mine – using NVidia to do so. When I right-click on the desktop – this is an option I have.

I also played with a Sceptre before purchasing the Dell. I found that if I changed the color temp (or something like that) from preset to “user defined” – then I could change the contrast on a DVI connection on the monitor itself.

I’ve not played with this much on the Dell. Maybe I will this weekend... :-)

Hmm - actually you should have brightness and contrast adjustments available. There will not be any geometry adjustments on DVI though.

I'm not sure about the new Dell monitors, but on my 2001FP, Contrast is only avialable on analog, and Image Settings is only available when on analog or when not running at the native resolution. Positioning is always available (although only for Zoom on digital) and Color Settings is always available. Birghtness is also always available.

Yeah Ii also dont understand this. Sometimes I dont like adjusting the monitor using the NVidia and rather do it on the monitor, but I guess it's nothing big for me.

I have 2 2005FPW's and absoloutley LOVE them!!!
The Blacklight bleeding that you refer to is only noticable if you are looking at a black screen.
This might be an eyesore if you are watching a DVD but I only notice it when I turn it off.
No ghosting, crisp pricture, no dead pixels, AWESOME monitors!
