A friend emailed me with this:
I have a 200 Gb drive partitioned into two drives. One is 32 Gb, that one shows up as a drive. The other is 160 Gb and it doesn't show up in Disk management.

That's because it needs to have a filing system on it. Then the OS will see the filing system and recognise it as a useable volume.

Edit: Hold on, what OS is your friend using and what service packs do they have currently installed?

The partition has files on it but the partition no longer shows in Disk Management. He doesn't care about saving the info. Just wants to know how to get the 160GB partition to show up again.

What operating system and service pack level? Check the jumpers and make SURE the cylinder limitation jumper is not set.

XP wSP2. Jumper is not set. The partition was there and had data on it. Now the partition doesn't show.

Exactly what does the Disk Management bar graph display say about the drive? Is the 160gb showing up as unallocated space or what?

He says the 160G partition doesn't show at all, like it's not there. All he sees, in Disk Management, is the 32G partition of the 200G HDD.

See if you can get him to take a screen shot like what's attached.

Just a thought - has the hard drive been moved from one computer to another? What model is the motherboard it's on now?

He did inform me that he had Media Center installed on. Something went wrong with Media Center so he formatted it to use for a backup drive. Now he is going to wipt it and try again?
Thanks for trying glc and sorry for wasting your time. If I hear anymore I will post.
