hi all,

i have a MSI 945P Nero2-F m/b. it has 1 IDE connector, but in the manual it says...

ON-BOARD IDE
- one ultra dma 66/100 IDE controllers integrated in ICH7/ICH7R.
- - supports PIO, bus master operation modes.
- - can connect up to six ultra ata drives

- SATAII controller integrated in ICH7/ICH7R.
- - up to 300mb/sec transfer speed.
- - can connect up to 4 SATAII devices.
- - supports AHCI controller with SATA raid 0, raid 1, and matrix raid (ICH7R).

how do i connect more IDE devices (as it says 6)? PCI cards? or is there some other magic i'm not aware of?

thanks,
parker

That doesn't sound right. According to this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130537), there is one IDE channel, and thus two PATA drive can be connected. The total of six drives may include two PATA drives and four SATA drives.

You can always add a PCI controller card if you want to hard more hard drives. However, there probably isn't a need to do so, since you can just get SATA hard drives instead.
