In port Adapter mouse ??
Standard Bus Adapter Mouse..this one is USB,right?
I have the touch pad disabled and can use a Serial mouse, but the PS/2 port mouse will not work, but I can put the keyboard there and it works, Help!!!!
Thank you for any and all help!!!

HID-compliant is USB. I'm not sure about the other two. Check your laptop's documentation, it could be that the PS2 port doesn't support a mouse. Any geneeric USB mouse should work as long as you have Win98 or better and a USB port. Belkin makes a small size USB wheel mouse that is great for laptop use, I got one for $15 at Wal-Mart.

I am still in need of help, It's gone from bad to worse, now I have no mouse, well almost, I went back in the bios set the touch pad to enable, and still no mouse, the serial mouse works, but no drivers are loaded for it, I really don't want to purchase a usb mouse, I have three others, I's like to use one of them, any clues, I did add new hardware, and it says no PS/2 mouse attached, but there are two!! Help Thank you!!
Remove all your mice and enable the touchpad. Boot into safe mode and remove ALL mice from device manager. Reboot into normal mode and install the touchpad driver. The touchpad driver should work just fine with any PS/2 mouse. Look carefully in the bios for anything that defines the external PS/2 port for keyboard or mouse use.

When I had my laptop, I didn't have to disable the onboard "mouse" to use a PS2 mouse, I just had to plug it in, and unlike a desktop, you could "hotswap" with the PS2 port on mine. I have seen a couple of laptops that you could not hotswap the PS2 port on though, so check your laptop's documentation. Tell us what kind of laptop you have, and I'll dig around the manufacturer's website for you if you want.

glc, I have done all that still to no avail, but I will do again, I think the key here is "THE TOUCHPAD DRIVER"..I don't believe that driver is on this computer, I'm pretty sure is it not one of those I listed in my first post, so I am searching for that driver..
Jenni, This laptop is a CTX EzBook and I finally found a web site with some information about midnight, I will continue my search today, I do think I am having a driver problem, the generic PS/2 mouse port driver does not work, tho I know the small PS/2 port is working because the external keyboard works fine there..
again Thank you both for all your help
I borrowed this laptop to try before buying, but think I'll pass on the buying!

This may help: ftp://216.122.86.174/notebook/ That is from www.ctxintl.com Find your model number and look under the listing for that series. I saw an "eztouch.exe" listed under several model series that I'm assuming is the touchpad driver.
Yeah, I'd be wary of buying a laptop from "the monitor specialists" if I was you. After all the hassle you have had simply trying to use a PS/2 mouse, I think I'd look for a different laptop if I was you! If you aren't looking to spend a whole lot, try www.intellesale.com I've been thinking about saving some cash up and getting one from them for a while now. They have some great deals in their "clearance sale" section if you don't mind a scratch, crack, or broken hinge.

Thank you for the link, I will search it for the driver, I currently have the touchpad disabled and am using a serial mouse, so that works, but would like to return it with the touch pad working since it was when I got it..opps
Thank you again!!
CTX notebooks weren't that bad - but they were made pretty cheaply. We have 3 of them, and 2 still work but the display is flaky on one of them. They had very weak lid hinges and somewhat unreliable display panels. You will need the touchpad driver from CTX. Note that CTX went out of the computer business and support is now almost nonexistent.
