hey, im having problem with my usb flash disk... it is not recognized sometimes. what seems to be the problem??

Double click on the Hardware icon in your system tray (the one with the little green arrow), does it show up there?

its brand is pqi( 512MB), im using xp or win2000. i just wonder why is that i need to plug the flash disk twice before it is recogrized. whenever i plug it in first the usb drive, it is not recognized then i unplug it then plug it to the other usb drive(the same pc), it is recognized then... my friends says that it is defective, is there any way to fix this problem?

I have an older Sony 128MB thumb drive that has the same problem with any PC I use it in but it has worked that way for almost 2 yrs. without any problems.
