I've got a question about my x1800XT 512MB. It runs at stock settings, and is not overclocked at all.
I'm just curious, is 86-87C load temps hot?
I've run Quake 4 and NFS: Most Wanted and I get those temps when I play, there has not been any artifacting but I'm just worried it might run on the hot side...
I use stock cooling by the way, and I have not done any adjustments to the speed of the fan.

I think that's fine - I've heard of those hitting 90C with no problems. Just don't attempt any overclocking on stock cooling and I think you'll be fine.
That is normal with stock cooling on the X1000 series. My X1900 would hit 90C before I installed aftermarket cooling. If you want, download ATITool and use it in place of the Catalyst Control Center. It will allow you to move your fan speed upwards to help aid in cooling. You can set fan speed based on temperature with that program.

yeah thanks for the advice, it's working fine now.. and I max load at around 76C? and it's running at 50% fan speeds.

With ATiTool you can go in and adjust the fan settings higher if you don't mind the racket. Also, if you have had the card a while it wouldn't hurt to pull it out and blow out the dust in the heatsink (remembering to hold the fan still).

Also another useful feature of that program is the ability to set dynamic fan speeds, if you dont want it running 100 percent or whatever 24/7 then just put a target temp as to when you want it to boost up. I personally dont notice the noise when doing full on gaming. But to each his own. I still opted for a quieter solution, those ati blowdryers are crazy.
