New Widescreen

I'm thinking about getting a 19" widescreen in the near future. I don't plan to be gaming much, but I'll probably be watching movies. I will also be programming. I have it narrowed down to these:

I have heard good things about the ViewSonic and it seems like the best, but the proce on the AG is nice, I don't know how long that rebate will last, though.

Not to rain on your parade or anything, but 19" widescreens are 1440x900 resulution. If I were you I'd just get a regular 19" LCD with their 1280x1024 resolution, unless you're going to be doing nothing else but watching movies.

I like the Viewsonic. The 1440x900 is a bit of an odd duck (or perhaps more aptly, a new comer) when it comes to native widescreen resolutions, but I think it strikes a nice balance between the lower 1280x1024's of typical 19" monitors and the higher 1920x1200 and beyond of the larger widescreen displays out there. There is one currently on display at my local Office Depot that looks very nice in person. I can't remember if it is 20" or 19", but the bottom part of the bezel is silver, and it looks very sleek. I've actually been using a 23" Apple widescreen display as my main monitor for a few years now, and have always enjoyed the extra screen space it provides.

One thing to consider is that fact that PC (and apple) widescreen displays use a 16:10 aspect ratio while widescreen DVD's display in 16:9. Just a small point, but if you like to watch widescreen DVD's in native format, there are some black bars on the top and bottom of the picture. It's not bad though, and I think you can use your DVD's player's software to adjust the size of the picture if you'd like.

Well, I went with the widescreen. I got it today, and I really like it. Movies look great and the extra desktop space is nice.
