Appreciate some assistance.

Building a pc with some used parts for a young boy.

Have a video card Diamond Multimedia (c)1996, Stealth 64 Video VRAM version 3.02, with an S3 Vision 968 chip. Have gone to the S3 and Diamond Multimedia websites where video card driver w950109b.zip is found.

Does anyone know:

Q#1. Would W98SE recognize this card and negate the need for this driver?

Q#2. Is there a site where a manual may be found for version 3.02 of this card?

Q#3. Any ideas if this card supports 3D?

Thank you for your help.

:)

1. 98SE will recognize it as a S3 and install a good enough driver.

2. I doubt it.

3. Not even close. It's a good 2D card but it's so old it doesn't even have a clue what 3D is. The 968 chip came out in 1993. It should run *basic* 3D games with some software acceleration, but don't expect much at all.

It'll play Diablo, Warcraft II, and Mechwarrior 2, any other games I'm not sure of.

Reason I know is I had that card in my ole' AMD 133mhz machine, and used to play those games back in the day at about 10-15 frames per second ;).

glc, Xayd,

Thanks for the info.

Glad to know W98 will have the drivers. Sorry to hear it does not support 3D, was led to believe it did. Oh well.

Have a good week.
